Today’s compilation of cool facts is inspired by my son. As he was getting ready for school AND munching on a bowl of raisin bran, he asked: “Mama, is chocolate naturally brown?”. Of course, I did what I always do: I Googled it. This is what I found:

  • The smell of chocolate increases theta brain waves, which triggers relaxation.
  • Chocolate is good for your teeth (Eating chocolate can help prevent tooth decay and works as an anti-bacterial agent)
  • White chocolate technically isn’t chocolate. It contains no cocoa solids or cocoa liquor. (but it tastes awesome in Subway’s White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies!)
  • The World became a little sweeter in 1939 when Nestle introduced chocolate chips.
  • Chocolate is a lifesaver-technically. (Milton Hershey, the founder of Hershey Chocolate, was supposed to go on the Titanic but cancelled last minute due to business issues.)

Hope you’ve enjoyed today’s facts!

P.S. To answer the original question, is chocolate naturally brown? According to Answers.com, “Cocoa powder (the base for chocolate) is naturally brown, after it is roasted. This gives the chocolate a brown color.”
