Fun Facts About All Kinds of Stuff!

5 Cool Things About Comics

Today’s post is inspired by the fact that today is National Comic Book Day. Yippee!!! I admit that I am not a big fan of comics although I do remember being a fan of Cathy. When it comes to hard core stuff, though, I am afraid I am lacking. This is despite being surrounded by die hard comic fans who actually have serious discussions about the differences between Marvel and DC. Anyway, in observance of today’s spotlight on comics, I have presented the following facts:

  • The font Comic Sans (one of my go to faves) is based on Dave Gibbons’ lettering in the Watchmen comic books.
  •  The US government loves comics! The world’s largest comic book collection belongs to the Library of Congress. They currently hold over 100,000 individual issues.
  • Darth Vader (my favorite villain next to Skeletor) was inspired by Marvels Dr. Doom.
  • In the early1990s, Michael Jackson tried to buy Marvel Comics just so that he could play Spider Man in his own movie production.
  • In 2002, a 4-year-old boy suffering from hearing loss didn’t want to wear a hearing aid because “Super heroes don’t.” To get him to wear his hearing aids, Marvel Comics created a super hero with a hearing aid, “Blue Ear”
