5 Cool Things About Chewing Gum

So…who remembers staying after school because you got caught chewing gum? Come one, don’t be shy. Really, it’s okay. It’s happened to the best of us. I somehow managed to avoid getting caught for this–, letter passing was my thing. No matter how good I thought I was, my Trig teacher always managed to catch me.

Anyway, for all of you gum chewers, today is your day. Today is National Chewing Gum Day! Check out these facts:

  • Native Americans made a form of gum from spruce tree sap.
  • For whatever reason, most chewing gum is purchased between Halloween and Christmas.
  • Humans are the only an animals on earth that chew gum.
  • The world’s oldest piece of chewing gum is 9000 years old!
  • The average person chews over 300 sticks of gum each year! Double that number if you chew Fruit Stripes ’cause they suck after about 3 chews. (do they even make Fruit Stripes anymore?)

P.S. By the way, today is also National Hot Mulled Cider Day and National Mud Pack Day. If you are in the mood for some delicious hot apple cider, check out this Apple Cider Recipe. If you are in the Greenville, SC area and in need of a good mud facial, click here for an awesome spa experience!
