5 Cool Things About Lucille Ball

Happy I Love Lucy Day! Whoo Hoo! Look out for all of those Lucille Ball lookalikes today. I Love Lucy was one of my favorite shows growing up. I never got tired of watching Lucy get herself into trouble and cry her way out of it. Timeless!

Anyway, to observe today, here are some cool things about Lucille Ball:

  • She initially dyed her hair blonde to pursue acting and modeling in New York. It wasn’t until MGM purchased her contract in 1942 that she returned to her roots as a redhead.
  • I Love Lucy was the first comedy to be filmed before a live audience. When it aired, department stores closed early and telephone and water usage dropped.
  • She was born Lucille Desiree Ball on August 6, 1911.
  • Lucille Ball was was a natural brunette.
  • One of the first companies Lucille Ball worked for at the beginning of her acting career was called RKO. She joined RKO in 1935 and starred in a variety of films including Top Hat in 1935 and Stage Door in 1943. She transferred her contract to MGM in 1943.
