Today is National Pasta Day

Pasta Lovers! Today is YOUR Day. Yes—today is National Pasta Day. Let’s celebrate the day with a few fun facts about this delicious staple. Here goes!

  • There are more than 600 pasta shapes worldwide. What’s your favourite? (My least fave is bowtie).
  • Italians never use a spoon and a fork when eating spaghetti. This is an American habit. ( Nero’s, our favorite Italian joint, serves up their deliocious spaghetti and meatballs with a fork and spoon. To this day, I am yet to use the spoon. Spaghetti is a fork only dish!)

  • The first American pasta factory was opened in Brooklyn, New York, in 1848, by a Frenchman named Antoine Zerega.
  • The word “pasta” comes from the Italian for paste, meaning a combination of flour and Water.
  • The Chinese are on record as having eaten pasta as early as 5,000 B.C.
