5 Ways to Improve Your Eyesight Naturally

Peepers. Baby Blues. Beautiful Browns. Whatever you call your eyes, you’ve got to admit that you love ‘em. AND that you need them and simply do not want to imagine life without them. Now, some of us, like my 14 year old, can see into the past and future. If she read this she would think this to be a joke about the size of her orbs. (She has the biggest, most amazingly beautiful set of Beautiful Browns I’ve ever seen. Biased? A little.) Actually, I am referring to her 20/20 vision. The child can see atoms, I tell you. Some of us, on the other hand, can’t see past our noses. For those folks, glasses and contacts are a way of life. If you are like me and are tired of glasses and cannot fathom placing a contact into your eye, the following 5 tips are for you.

1) Exercise for good eye health

No, you do not need to lose weight in your eye. However, studies show that walking 3 to 4 times a week can benefit you by reducing intraocular pressure, or IOP, in people with glaucoma. It is also possible that one can reduce their overall risk of developing glaucoma simply by walking.

2) Be like Popeye and eat your Spinach

Not to impress Olive Oil, of course, but to increase your intake of lutein, a nutrient that has been found to prevent age-related macular degeneration and cataracts. For best results and maximum absorption, consume your lutein with some type of oil (olive oil is recommended).

3) Indulge in Sweet Potatoes for Dinner Tonight

Not only are they delicious but they can improve your night vision because they are a tremendous source of vitamin A. Click here for some healthy sweet potato recipes.

4) Exercise Your Eyes

Give your eyes a workout. Rolling your eyes is an awesome way to exercise your eye muscles.

5) Give Your Eyes a Break

Seriously. According to Dr. Mao Shing Ni, you should give your eyes a break once per each hour of your workday. Do this by resting your eyes 10 minutes for every 50 minutes spent reading or in front of the computer. If your eyes feel overly tired, lie down and place cooling cucumber slices over your eyelids. If your boss says something to you about this, direct them to this post. Who knows, they may even join you!

I hope these tips have been helpful to you. If you are like me, I never considered investigating a way to naturally improve my vision. I just resigned myself to sitting my glasses on top of my nose for the rest of my life. It feels great to have options.
