Fun Facts About All Kinds of Stuff!
Yesterday was a good day. Spent some time with with the fam, let me hair down and just chilled out. One of the things we did was sit down and played a game of dominoes. Boy was it fun! Oh and I won. Maybe that was why it was so fun. Anyway, that prompted today’s post. So here we go with some cool facts about this awesome game!
Dominoes were first documented in China between 12 and 13 century AD, and in the western world were initially played in Italy in the 1700s, and from there it spread throughout Europe.
European domino sets, which generally differ slightly to Chinese dominoes, have 28 tiles, but sets with up to 253 have been made, but are rare and are more than enough to suit eight players.
The world record for the most dominoes set up and toppled is 4,002,136! The record was set at Domino Day 2005 in Leeuwarden, Netherlands on November 18, 2005.
While dominoes are played all over the world, the game is most popular in Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and other Latin American countries.
There are many variations to the game, including matador, where the goal is not to match an adjacent domino but to play a number that totals seven when added to an end, and muggins, where the goal is to make the sum of the open-end pips on the layout a multiple of five.
