5 Cool Things About the English Language

English Language Day!

English Language Day!

Today is the day for all English speakers to celebrate. Yes, the English language really does have it’s own special day. As this rock’s 3rd most spoken language, I suppose it should. So, of course I dug around the net for some cool, fun facts about the language and here is what I found:

  • The most common letter in English is “e”; The most common vowel in English is “e”, followed by “a”.
  • In written English, only one letter in every 510 is a Q.
  • A new word is created about every 98 minutes.
  • The dot above the lower case i and j is called a tittle. Hmm…
  • Despite the letter e being so popular, author Ernest Vincent Wright once wrote an entire novel – just over 50,000 words – without using the letter “e.” Not once. Wow.

Well, I truly hope you have enjoyed today’s post. If so, please like my facebook page, share and subscribe!
